People on computers Social Media followers

Once you start your social media account your immediate question is typically, do you need lots of followers? The answer to that questions is- it depends. That’s because it totally depends on your aim, your ideal client, and your business.

Like most things in life there is not necessarily a black and white answer. Lots of followers are desirable because in theory the more people you reach, the more sales you will make. Essentially it’s like casting a wide net. When you cast a wide enough net you’re bound to snag some results. It’s also a tactic that can work. After all, if you’re a viral sensation the locals are bound to get caught up in the rush.

Unfortunately it’s not just about the follower count. If this is all that you care about they yay, hold up a trophy when you hit those big numbers. But are they really making a difference?

If you’ve got a little store in Mackay and a million followers around the world, how many of them are actually potential clients? What you actually need are quality leads. Otherwise you’re potentially wasting your time and money reaching people who probably won’t make a difference.

That said, those wide reaches can potentially make a difference. Someone’s great aunt in London mentions a little store they saw online to a friend in Queensland. The friend in Queensland then tells their cousin in Mackay. Boom, and you’ve got a lead. Just don’t count on this happening!

In summary, no you don’t necessarily need lots of followers to do well on social media. You just need the right followers. Those ideal clients who love what you do and will therefore buy from you. After all, it’s that end deal that you’re really aiming for in business. Aim for the best.
